Joe asks, “I’m having my business cards designed and the guy at the business card printer asked if I wanted my picture on the business card. Originally I told him no, but now I see a lot of people with their pictures on their business cards, what do I do?”
The first question I asked Joe in response was about what industry he was in. He told me he was a freelance architect.
Joe, here is my response…
Most of the times, unless you are in direct sales I would not recommend business cards. In a sales environment your face is important if people are going to remember you. However, your indsutry, especially since you freelance, you are also selling, but you’re selling yourself.
If you meet a lot of people, especially business owners, I would recommend that you do use a picture on your business card.
Joe, make sure that you get a professional picture taken. Please DO NOT take your own picture, or have your wife take it. You aren’t a professional photographer. Just go down to the mall or photo studio wearing professional business attire, probably a suit for you, and tell them you need a picture for a business card and website. It should only take 15 minutes and should cost you less than $50 to get them printed and on a CD.
Thanks for the question Joe!
