Anti-alias, by definition means to smooth the edges of a graphic or text so it doesn’t appear so jagged (pixelated).
By making sure you anti-alias most of your business card creations, you will not only create smoother edges, but most, if not all, of your images will look better.
Wikipedia has an entry regarding anti-aliasing that says, “anti-aliasing is the technique of minimizing aliasing (jagged or blocky patterns) when representing a high-resolution signal at a lower resolution.”
